a little about henna

Lawsonia Inermis, also known as henna, is a plant that is used to temporarily stain the skin. The stain comes from lawsone which is a reddish-orange dye that binds to the keratin (a protein) in our skin and safely stains the skin. Henna is no hidden gem, in fact this art has been used for thousands of years in counties such as India, Africa and the middle East. This paste was originally used as a way to cool peoples bodies from the desert climate. The coolant later developed into a form of cultural art when people began to recognize the patterns it would leave on their skins.

the roots of Jeli rose art

Henna was one of my first loves in the art world. Its complex designs and beautiful history inspires me. Actually hennas was the original root of Jeli Rose Art. When I was 15 the idea of Jeli Rose Art began with me selling hennas at the local beaches, from then hennas has grown from being something fun, to something profitable, and soon into something healing. Besides doing hennas for events or for personal use, I also find a calling for doing henna crowns on those who have lost their hair to cancer or alopecia.
